Our Projects
Our projects are created to bring people together and support the community.

NOC Rangers
NOC Rangers are members of our community who volunteer their time to provide regular visits and practical support to people who may be elderly, disabled, lonely, or otherwise vulnerable and in need of extra help and social connection.
Each NOC Ranger commits to spending at least two hours once a week, on a set day, with the same individual. These regular visits help create routine, trust, and meaningful relationships.
During visits, Rangers may:
-
Help with light gardening tasks
-
Offer practical help around the home
-
Provide companionship, conversation, and a friendly presence
The aim of the NOC Rangers Programme is to ensure that no one in our community feels isolated or forgotten. Through regular check-ins and gentle support, Rangers help individuals maintain their independence, wellbeing, and quality of life, while strengthening connections across the community.
For volunteers who would like to give time, offer support, and make a meaningful difference in their community.
For individuals, families, or professionals who know someone who may benefit from regular visits and support.

NOC Growers
If we grow together, we can grow enough produce to feed our community.
NOC Growers is built on a simple idea: many households growing small amounts, all working together. You don’t need an allotment or loads of experience — just a little space and one crop.
Imagine each household growing from just 2 square metres upwards of a single crop. For example, 2 square metres of lettuce can produce around 20 lettuces at a time. Now think of your neighbour growing 2 square metres of spring onions, another growing spinach, another kale, another herbs.
Together, we create variety, regular harvests, and real community resilience.
Training is provided at NOC workshops, so you can get started with confidence.
Tell us your area and the space you can commit and we’ll help coordinate so, together, we grow a balanced mix for the community.

Fresh and Chemical-Free Produce
At Nurturing Our Community, we teach people how to grow fresh, healthy food using natural techniques and resources that work with the environment — not against it.
At our sites, Robin’s Nest and Orchard Farm, we focus on practical, accessible growing methods that anyone can learn and apply at home or on an allotment.
We use no-dig techniques to protect soil structure and strengthen the living ecosystem beneath our feet, and we practise companion planting to support natural balance, resilience, and biodiversity. We also prioritise low-waste, low-impact growing wherever possible, helping people build confidence with simple tools and sustainable habits.
This approach is about more than food. It’s about wellbeing, connection, and empowering people to grow with purpose — supporting pollinators, improving soil health, and creating greener, healthier communities through shared learning.
We also sell a limited amount of seasonal produce to help fund our workshops and keep our community work growing. We’re not just delivering food — we’re delivering wellbeing, sustainability, and a stronger community.

NOC No tech camping retreat
Escape the noise of everyday life and reconnect with nature at our NOC No-Tech Camping Retreat Pilot, set in the peaceful surroundings of Robin’s Nest Farm. This pilot is being developed in partnership with organisations that champion wellbeing, youth development, and community connection — offering groups a supportive, screen-free experience that helps people slow down, reset, and reconnect.
During the day, participants are invited to take part in hands-on horticultural workshops, learning practical skills such as seed sowing, planting, nurturing, and harvesting fresh produce. These sessions encourage teamwork, responsibility, and connection to the natural environment.
The retreat also includes equine-assisted therapeutic experiences, offering time to connect with horses in a calm, supportive setting. These ground-based sessions promote focus, confidence, emotional regulation, and mutual trust, and are suitable for a wide range of ages and abilities.
Evenings are intentionally simple and technology-free, allowing time for rest, reflection, shared meals, and positive group interaction. With distractions removed, participants are encouraged to build stronger relationships, communicate openly, and enjoy the benefits of being fully present.
Working With Partner Organisations
As a pilot project, we are working alongside a small number of partner organisations to shape and refine the retreat model. We want to ensure it is practical, inclusive, and genuinely beneficial for the communities it serves. Participating groups will be invited to share feedback to help guide future development.
Who This Pilot Is For
The NOC No-Tech Camping Retreat Pilot is well suited to organisations and groups such as:
-
Scouts and youth organisations
-
Local sports teams and clubs
-
Schools, colleges, and community groups
-
Wellbeing, leadership, and team-building programmes
Activities can be adapted to suit different group sizes, ages, and objectives, including resilience, confidence-building, teamwork, and wellbeing.
This retreat is about more than camping — it is about creating space to breathe, recharge, and grow together. Participants leave feeling refreshed, grounded, and more connected to themselves, each other, and the natural world.

Embrace Life Beyond Light
International Mission
Nurturing Our Community has partnered with the Visual-Nonvisual Network in Malta. VNVO is a non-profit organisation comprising a group of various NGOs with the same objectives. These all provide information and referrals about living with visual impairment, and all work to help blind people become independent.
